THE WILD.
The wild is calling
me out again.
Nothing has been
a stronger north star
than my periodic predilection
for the unknown.
Curious as a cougar,
I simply have to walk into the canyon
after a buildup
of the mundane predictable.
And it’s where I’d spend
all my time in another life.
Give me a pack,
proven shoes, and no map
so that, in sacred space and time,
I can go walk off my anger
at society and what it accepts
as reasonable every common day.
Into the wild, where nature
sets what is reasonable
and my reasoning can recover
and breathe life again,
away from the madness
of the crowd and their groupthink
that excuses poverty
with economic theory and tricky laws,
ruins both land and dignity
through governing bodies,
and marches militaries to and fro,
giving stupid men
something to do,
and contrived reasons to feel brave,
when all they ever needed
was the wild.
People say nature is cruel,
nature says people are misguided,
ancient wisdom says
live in accordance with nature.
